Miss
Pouliot’s Kindergarten
Nutrition

As a class we spent some time
discussing nutrition. We talked about the four food groups and how
eating a variety of foods can make us healthy and strong!
-
We went through the
play-food in our restaurant and grocery store and sorted them into
the four food groups.
-
We also played a game about
Nutrition. The students had to identify the beginning sound for a
certain play-food item they pulled from a box. When they had done
so, they were able to place it on the game board in the appropriate
food group category.
-
During snack time we often
discuss what sort of foods the students have brought. I say,” Who
had a fruit or vegetable?” and they hold it up if they have
something from that food group. Sometimes I say, “I see you have a
piece of bread today. Do you know what food group that comes from?”
Here is the list of
nutritious foods KA students enjoy:
Cheese, crackers, garlic
sausage, apples, dried mangos, frozen yogurt, raisins, yogurt, rice,
chicken, corn nibblets, spaghetti squash, popcorn, apple juice, milk
(white/chocolate), Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice, carrots, broccoli,
water, bread, mini bites bagels, bagels with cream cheese, shrimp,
cheese pizza, pickles, crab legs, bananas, pumpkin seeds, hazel nuts,
soy beans, peaches, cheerios, whole wheat toast, watermelon, ox-tail
soup, carrot/banana muffins, grill cheese, peanut butter/banana
sandwiches, cream of broccoli soup (homemade), pancakes, eggs, corn on
